The life cycle of the skin and hormonal changes affect the distribution of melanin in the skin, leading to various types of hyperpigmented lesions. Moles, freckles, age spots, and melasma (a hyperpigmentation condition with dark patches on the face) fall into this category. Usually, these spots mean that the skin has been damaged to varying degrees. Whether they are caused by sun exposure, genetics, or other factors, they ultimately result in uneven skin tone and blemishes. Hyperpigmented skin lesions are different from vascular lesions, which are not caused by sun damage and present a different appearance dermoscopically. Hyperpigmented lesions may be raised or flat and are generally a cosmetic rather than a medical problem. Intense pulsed light (IPL), which targets melanin, is effective in treating benign lesions and eliminating them.
How Does Pigmented Lesion Removal Work
Delya utilizes advanced light-based, laser and IPL technologies to precisely target melanin in dull areas of the skin, breaking it down into tiny particles. These particles are then metabolized and removed by the lymphatic system, gradually disintegrating the layers of pigmentation and restoring even, flawless skin.

The Pigmentation Procedure
During the treatment, the intense pulsed light will precisely cover the entire area of the lesion. Skin cells that are full of excess melanin absorb the energy of the intense pulsed light, increase in temperature, and begin to degenerate. The surrounding normal skin tissue remains unharmed. After the treatment, the treated area slowly heals and the immune system sweeps out the dead skin cells, leaving the skin brighter and more flawless.
The length of treatment depends on the size of the lesion. Smaller lesions like age spots can be treated in a second, but larger birthmarks or moles may take a few minutes. Patients may experience slight discomfort during the treatment, but side effects are minimal.

Most hyperpigmented lesions can be completely removed with enough treatments. Smaller lesions such as freckles and age spots can probably be treated in a single session; however, other lesions, due to a variety of factors, may require up to six or even more treatments to remove.
